Essential Functions
POSITION SUMMARY:
Position reviews medical record documentation to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reviews medical records in electronic medical records systems for the identification and capture of orthopedic services. Code evaluation and management services and procedures to the appropriate level per physician documentation. Assign ICD-9 codes per specialty.
2. Apply appropriate coding rules, teaching physician regulations, billing guidelines, and department policies.
3. Accurately enter charges and documentation information when applicable.
4. Research correct coding as needed.
5. Assist in the coordination of efforts related to increasing physician awareness in documentation requirements and to ! fully capture all inpatient charges.
6. Maintain codi! ng certification.
Required Qualifications
Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials (the specialty-specific credential is only valid for that employeeâs department)
The RHIT or RHIA (or eligible) certification in health information management may be recognized in lieu of a coding credential and does not require experience
Preferred Qualifications
Proficient in medical terminology, evaluation and management CPT codes and ICD-9 coding. Organized in material, thought, and action. Maintain patient confidentiality. Must be able to maintain coding on a large patient volume and work within stressful situations.
Salary Range
The hiring range for this position is $18.89 to $23.61 per hour.
