Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Library Technical Assistant for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois to perform complex non-professional clerical tasks specific to the operation, maintenance and provision of patients and staff library services, including the maintenance of various book collections. Maintains and monitors detailed circulation control system(s). Coordinates and implements the provision of inter-library loan activities. Maintains various special collections.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs complex non-professional clerical tasks specific to the operation, maintenance and provision of patients and staff library services, including the maintenance of various book collections.

  • Maintains and monitors detailed circulation control system(s) for patient and professional staff libraries, including reserves, renewals, overdue materials, damaged library materials, etc.

  • Coordinates and implements the provision of inter-library loan activities between Chester Public Library, Regional Library System, and facility library services.

  • Maintains various special collections, including print and non-print materials, audio-visuals, and support equipment for the provision of Professional Staff Library Services.

  • Creates displays, posters, etc., for promotion of reading and library services.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of two years of college.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the Illinois Department of Human Services background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
