  • The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist is responsible for developing Pharmaceutical Care Services in the hospital and associated ambulatory services. The emphasis of the position will focus on the identified service (Cardiology Critical Care, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Trauma / Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Solid-Organ Transplant, and Emergency Medicine). The position is based at Saint Louis University Hospital. The pharmac! ist will work closely with his/her medical specialty departments, Department of Pharmacy Services, other medical staff, nursing staff, and ancillary departments.
  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team rounds with his/her Department of Specialty and/or clinical service line. Recommends changes to drug therapy based on patient assessment. The pharmacist will record clinical interventions, therapeutic recommendations and other clinical activities according to department policy and procedure.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of Department of Pharmacy and/or Service line specific patient-care initiates.
  • Provides leadership/mentorship to the clinical-staff pharmacist, pharmacy practice residents, and critical care resident. He/she provides instruction and guidance to the clinical-staff pharmacist(s) and residents related to patient care activities relative to their service line.
  • The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist! designs, implements, recommends and monitors patient-specific drug reg! imens with the medical staff and maintains a personal clinical practice consistent with department service commitments and hospital practice needs.
  • The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist is entrusted with highly confidential patient and business data. A high degree of ethics and confidentiality is required.
  • Works closely with the Pharmacy Clinical Manager to ensure safe and cost effective utilization of medications used in the hospital. Develop programs and initiatives to meet departmental financial goals.
  • Provides support and review of Pharmacy Practice Resident and Critical Care Resident activities and learning experiences.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement (QI), Drug Use Evaluations (DUE), Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR), Medication Safety and other clinical programs of the Department of Pharmacy Services.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy, one year Post Graduate Residency ! Training and Board Certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Second year Post Graduate Residency Training or equivalent clinical experience and Board Certification.
  • Two years of relevant clinical experience preferred.
  • Must be licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Missouri or possess a temporary pharmacist license issued by the State of Missouri.
