SUMMARY: Performs the primary function of a Registered Professional Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, educating and evaluating a designated group of patients in accordance with all! established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. Is responsible for managing all assigned personal supplies, and equipment on the unit and for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.
Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent
1.Directs all care to team members. (5%)
2.Acts as a patient liaison and advocate. (5%)
3.Assures proper documentation. (15%)
a.Documents assessments.
b.Initiates careplans or care paths.
c.Formulates, updates, and revises treatment plans and goals.
4.Participates in discharge planning: (5%)
a.Identifies home educational needs.
b.Instructs and educates patients to diet, medications, activities, etc.
5.Assures orders are processed as follows: (5%)
a.Checks and signs off orders.
b.Accepts telephone orders from doctorâs office.
c.Ensur! es documentation of advanced directives.
6.Makes i! nitial and continuous patient assessment: (20%)
a.Communicates the interpretation of lab data, EKGâs, etc.
b.Consults with physician.
c.Makes patient rounds.
d.Manages patientâs in-house transfer through system.
e.Reviews drug therapy.
f.Assesses ADLâs
g.Coordinates administration of treatments between disciplines.
7.Coordinates all aspects of patient care, including planning, intervention, education, and evaluation: (20%)
a.Develops, maintains, and applies age-specific knowledge relevant to the care of the patient population served.
b.Inserts NG tube.
c.Initiates TPN, blood, and blood products.
d.Performs IV insertions, troubleshooting and maintenance.
e.Accesses and flushes ports. (unit specific)
f.Performs IV push medications and flushes.
g.Performs staple removal.
h.Performs drain removal. (unit specific)
i.Initiates invasive doctorâs orders.
j.Participates in STAT team response. k.Provides patient education.
l.Attends patient care conferences.
8.Performs supervisory duties: (5%)
a.Supervises care team members.
b.Supervises students, PCTâs and PCAâs.
c.Interprets Hospital Policy for team members.
d.Participates as committee chair or member of various nursing or interdisciplinary committee meetings as requested.
e.Assists in providing adequate staffing.
f.Participates with Standards development.
g.May function as a charge nurse, assigning care of patients to caregivers according to hospital Structure Standards.
9.Oversees the education of staff and staff development: (5%)
a.Develops and educates staff.
b.Orients new employees.
c.Participates in performance monitoring (peer review).
10.RNâs on centralized IV Therapy Team will participate in: (5%)
a.Administering chemotherapy.
b.Declotting central line using TPA.
c.Accessing Infusaport/Grosho! ng catheters, etc.
d.Performing therapeutic phlebotomy.
e.Provi! ding home IV therapy educational needs.
f.Insert PICCâs/Midlines.
g.Performs venipunctures.
11.Participates in continuing education activities relevant to Nursing Practice. (5%)
12. Performs other work duties as assigned. (5%)

Required Experience:
Capable of working to prescribed Hospital Policies and Nursing Standards.
The patient care provided will take into consideration the specific age-related needs of the patient. Nursing divisions may provide patient care to neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults.
Basic Life Support completion within 3 months of hire.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 1 year for ICU.
Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program for Maternity and Newborn Services, Pediatrics.
JOB DUTIES REQUIRE YEARLY VALIDATION FOR COMPETENCY and YEARLY COMPLETION OF HOSPITAL SAFETY PROGRAM. PARTICIPATION ! IN A BLS, ACLS IS REQUIRED EVERY TWO YEARS.
Required Education:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri.
Compensation:Working Conditions:
Employee is required to walk continuously and sit occasionally. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) load occasionally and heavy ( 50lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Verbal and cognitive ability, as well as motor coordination and manual dexterity are required. Speech, hearing, and near-visual acuity are required. May be needed to work any shift due! to 24-hour day, 7 days per week operation. May be required to work on ! other patient care units as needed. Employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens.
