English Language Proficiency required. DUTIES:
The VA St. Louis Health Care System is currently seeking a full-time (80 hours per biweekly pay period) physician to join the Medical Service in the position of staff gastroenterologist. The ideal candidate will have special interest or experience in the development of an academic career path involving clinical care, translational or outcomes research and/or educational programs in their area of interest. Responsibilities include teaching and supervision of gastroenterology fellows, medicine residents and students, in and outpatient consultation in gastroenterology, research and performing endoscopic procedures in the setting of a contemporary academic environment.

  • The duty station is at the John Cochran Division;
however, the duty station may be changed to one or multiple associated VAMC
locatio! ns within the metropolitan St. Louis, MO area based on the needs of the
medical center.
  • This position
is in the bargaining unit.

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • U.S. Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must be board certified or eligible.
  • Completion of a one year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C.! 7402(d) and 7407(d).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1. The app! licant must possess clinical or basic/translational interest or experience sufficient to qualify for a faculty appointment at one of our affiliated medical schools, Saint Louis University or Washington University.
2. Sub specialty board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physician: The Physical requirements of this position include the
following tasks which may be performed intermittently: lifting of up to
10 lbs., sitting (4 hours), standing (2 hours), walking (2 hours),
bending/stooping (1 hour), twisting (1/2 hou! r), simple grasping (4 hours), fine
manipulation (6 hours), reaching above the shoulder (1/2 hour), and operating
machinery (1/2 hour).
