The Healthcare System's Nephrology Physician performs full time adult Nephrology care at the VA St. Louis Health Care System. The incumbent will supervise internal medicine housestaff, student-physicians and nephrology fellows. The incumbent will care for in-patients with a broad spectrum of kidney diseases, electrolyte disorders, and will be capable of managing critically ill patients who require continuous renal replacement therapy. Competence in placement of central venous catheters for acute dialysis access is necessary. The successful candidate will need to be qualified to manage patients with resistant and secondary forms of hypertension, in addition to general nephrology problems in the out-patient setting. Duties will also involve care for patients with end stage renal disease receiving in-center and hom! e-based dialysis (both HD and PD).

locations within the metropolitan St. Louis, MO area based on the needs of the
medical center.

- U.S. Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Must be board certified or eligible.
- Completion of a one ye! ar residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans ! Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
1. Sub specialty board certified or board eligible in both Nephrology and Hypertension Medicine.
2. Training in interventional nephrology.
3. Competence in placement of central venous catheters for acute dialysis access.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physician: The Physical requirements of this position include the
following tasks which may be performed intermittently: lifting of up to
10 lbs., sitting (4 hours), standing (2 hours), walking (2 hours),
bending/stooping (1 hour), ! twisting (1/2 hour), simple grasping (4 hours), fine
manipulation (6 hours), reaching above the shoulder (1/2 hour), and operating
machinery (1/2 hour).
