DUTIES:
The St. Louis VA Healthcare System is recruiting a part-time surgical urologist. Incumbent will supervise residents, fellows, and medical students. The incumbent will collaborate with Surgical Intensivists, Cardiology, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Medical Oncology, and providers from our respective VA Medical Centers in Marion and Poplar Bluff, IL. The qualified candidate will have broad clinical experience in the specialty of urologic surgery.

The St. Louis VASTLHCS is a 143-bed tertiary care facility with a 12 bed surgical intensive care unit (SICU) and a 10 bed stepdown unit; there is a separate 12 bed medical intensive care unit. The Medical Center's Surgery Service consists of 50 staff surgeons in nine different specialties. In the last fiscal year, 3,438 surgical cases were performed at the St. Louis VA Healthcare System. The St. Louis VA Healthcare System is a teaching institution and has affiliations with the Washington University and Saint Louis University Schools of Medicine.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Citizen of the United States or authorization to work in the United States. J-1 waiver applicants accepted.

2. Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

4. Clinical and research experience to qualify for academic appointment.

5. Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible.

6. Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

7. Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

8. Must pass a pre-employment physical, which may include drug testing.

9. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must have completed a certified American or Canadian Urology residency program. 2. Must have experience in endourology and preferably experience in percutaneous nephrolithotomy. 3. Robotic experience is preferred. 4. Fellowship training in a urologic subspecialty is preferred.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
