Responsible for academic, academic apprentice, staff personnel, student employment, and benefits for the UCLA Political Science Department. Provide employment, personnel service and human resource assistance to 42 full-time faculty, temporary faculty, various summer sessions faculty, Emeriti, visiting scholars, 45 academic apprentice personnel (teaching assistants, research assistants, readers, and fellows), and 11 staff. The Academic, apprentice and staff personnel budget totals more than $9M annually. Supervise one staff position overseeing student and staff personnel hiring. Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer. Staff the Departmental Merit Review Committee for faculty advancement and promotion and is responsible for assembling and preparing faculty dossiers for departmental and College review. Work closely with the Graduate Division to ensure that the department is in compliance with union policies regarding employment of academic apprentice personnel. Work closely with the College of Letters and Science and Campus Human Resources relative to employment of represented and non-represented staff personnel. Responsible for advising and counseling all employees about University benefits and on-line benefits services through UCPath. A highly visible position that requires sensitivity, knowledge of University personnel policies and procedures and the UCPath system, organizational and supervisorial skills to create, adjust and maintain the department's personnel services system.
