Overview:
Birth Certificate Specialist prepares birth certificates for submission to the department of Vital Statistics. Duties include data gathering, typing forms, obtaining signature and timely reporting. Interviews mothers for birth certificate information with accuracy of the time, including handling adoptions, fetal demise disposition and fetal death certificates.

Responsibilities:Obtains birth certificates or other required legal papers prior to discharge of the mother 98% of the time. Records results of PKU tests and notifies physicians if report is positive. If no PKU was obtained, researches and follows established procedures for completion.
Qualifications:
One year previous clerical experience, prefer Birth Certificate completion knowledge in Medical Records. Accurate typing at a minimum of 40-50 words per minute. Knowledge of AVSS computer system desirable. Knowledge of terminal digit and alphabetical filing systems. Basic knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
