Laboratory engineer for gastruloid research [Norway]


 

About the position

The Hybrid Technology Hub Centre of Excellence at Oslo University Hospital and University of Oslo, Norway is currently accepting applications for a 2 year position as a laboratory engineer to work on stem cell derived gastruloids (100% position).

The Centre headed by Prof. Stefan Krauss is located at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences at University of Oslo. The Centre develops innovative human 3D models for biomedical research https://www.med.uio.no/hth/english/ In the frame of the recently established European Innovation Council project consortium “supervised morphogenesis in gastruloids” (SUMO), the Krauss group has established a group that works on mouse and human gastruloids. The overall aim of the work is to advance gastruloids to the stage of organ induction.

The laboratory engineer, funded by the research council of Norway, will join a group of 4 post-doctoral researchers and one PhD on advancing gastruloid technology. The work will include culture and differentiation of human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells, culture of gastruloids under various conditions. The laboratory engineer will also assist with characterizing gastruloids by advanced imaging and analytical techniques including confocal microscopy, Tomocube holographic imaging and sample preparation for scRNAseq.

Work tasks
Human stem cell culture and differentiation to gastruloids
Analysis of gastruloids by advanced imaging technology
Sample preparation for scRNAseq
Contributing to the day-to-day running of the lab, including ordering system and cleaning routines
Maintaining excellent laboratory notebooks (manual and/or electronic) to document all aspects of the experimental work
Participation in (international) project coordination meetings
Qualification requirements
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology or a similar subject is required. Real competence with relevance to the tasks in question can compensate for the education requirement. Furthermore, relevant practical work experience may be required
Minimum of one-year laboratory experience is required
Experience with human or mouse cell culture is required
Experience with basic molecular biology is required
Experience with human stem cell culture is an advantage
Good knowledge in cell biology, developmental biology and histology is an advantage

Fluency in Norwegian is not required but is considered an advantage

Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment
Team player
Fluent in both spoken and written English
Flexibility of working on weekends, (2-3 hours)
