which include work requiring knowledge of specialized medical/scientific terminology;
performs general secretarial duties as assigned.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include any and/or all of the following:
Types manuscripts, abstracts, and/or protocols from straight draft, notes or
transcribing machine; performs secretarial duties requiring knowledge of specialized
medical/scientific terminology; processes billing sheets.

Processes various! materials, composes and types routine correspondence, memos, ! letters,
reports, etc.; schedules appointments and arranges meetings; schedules test, surgeries,
procedures and patient consultations; may perform pre-admission certification; prepares
and assembles conference and meeting materials.

Answers phone; refers, routes, or places calls; files correspondence and records;
maintains inventory; responds to requests for information; receives, sorts, and
distributes mail; may maintain supervisorÂ's calendar.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of specialized medical/scientific terminology

Written and verbal communication skills

Interpersonal/human relations skills

Ability to maintain records and files

Ability to make basic numerical calculations

Ability to learn and apply institutional policies and procedures

Ability to extract data from conversation and document! s

Ability to transcribe data from recorded or direct dictation

Ability to compose a variety of memorandums and/or letters with only general direction

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to type and operate a personal computer and modern office equipment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience equivalent to:
High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented with two (2) years secretarial
experience which includes one (1) year using medical/scientific terminology.
