- The registered nurse (RN) in the OR is a professional practitioner who provides, manages and directs nursing care activities during the patients' perioperat! ive experience and coordinates care planning with other disciplines.
- Performs comprehensive nursing assessment as the database.
- Establishes and coordinates a plan of care based on analysis of the initial assessment data, patient diagnosis and physician orders.
- Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in-patient condition.
- Assessment: Performs comprehensive nursing assessment including the physical, psychosocial spiritual and cultural needs.
- Provides timely ongoing patient reassessment documenting pertinent observations according to the care plan.
- Utilizes special assessments (abuse, pediatric, fall risk, skin Care, etc.) when appropriate.
- Establishes and coordinates a plan of care based on analysis of the initial assessment data, patient diagnosis and physician orders.
- Identifies patient care needs.
- Formulates interventions to achie! ve desired patient outcomes.
- Follows established stan! dards of practice.
- Collaborates with appropriate health team members for coordination of plan of care for assigned patients.
- Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in-patient condition.
- Documents patient care on the Perioperative Record and coordinates and communicates with other disciplines.
- Transcribes and initiates physician orders in an accurate and timely manner.
- Recognizes changes in patients' condition, takes appropriate Nursing actions.
- Documents effectiveness of nursing care.
- Performs and documents ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of care based on assessment data, nursing interventions, patient response to medications, treatments and procedures.
- Evaluates plan of care and modifies as indicated.
- Identifies problems, gathers pertinent data, suggests solutions, communicates using appropriate lines of authority, and works ! toward problem resolution.
- Recognizes significant changes in patient's clinical parameters and reports to surgeon and others as indicated.
- Demonstrates accounts for own professional practice.
- Participates in additional learning experience to increase professional competence including: Committee membership, Staff meeting, Mandatory inservices and other educational programs
- Evaluation of self by identifying strengths areas for improvement.
