Position Description
The Regional Business Director (RBD) will be responsible for achieving aggre! ssive Area sales targets across all product offerings. The successful Regional Business Director must hire and maintain an effective sales team in the assigned area; build and train the sales team; and develop and implement a tactical sales plan. The key emphasis will be to achieve revenue plan by sustaining strong performance management. It is also important for the Regional Business Director to develop our markets while creating relationships with key customers. There is a high need for well-rounded communication skills to foster robust exchanges across company lines to help multiply our sales efforts.
Position Responsibilities
The RBD will interface with members of a corporate team consisting of, Marketing, Engineering, Clinical, and Senior Management. The role of the corporate team is to help the ABD achieve the aggressive area sales targets by expanding applications of existing products in existing markets and successfully developing new markets.
! 1. Hire, build and motivate team: Interview internal an! d external candidates to staff the team. Evaluate all candidates using the Medtronic Sales Recruitment tools.
Use Medtronicâs resources to assess, recruit and hire for open and future positions;
Strengthen Medtronicâs ongoing recruiting efforts by leveraging oneâs own network of contacts for referrals. Encourage and motivate team members to do the same;
Prepare new Sales Representatives for sales training using existing area resources;
Provide post-training assessment of Sales Representatives within 45 days of training completion;
Help Sales Representatives develop a territory plan to achieve profitability for current fiscal year; and,
Direct continuous team building by consistently communicating shared goals and changes needed for improvements. Create and utilize management tools to benchmark progress on results of the improvements and implementation of change.
2. Establish Performance Management Process: Demonstrate the a! bility to achieve through others by providing goals, objectives and support. Meet personally with the Sales Representatives to continually assess strengths and growth opportunities. Implement continuous scheduled team communication (i.e.: regional meetings, conference calls, web-x, etcâ¦) every quarter.
Use Sales Representative Performance Profile for assessment and management of each team member. Immediately implement a plan to build, train, or develop as necessary to meet the companyâs aggressive sales plans.
Provide Sales Representatives with written quarterly (Napkin updates) and yearly assessments.
3. Achieve Sales Targets and Quotas: Make monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue targets. Monitor and assist Sales Representatives in achieving targets. Conduct a complete review of the regionâs sales plans and current tactics. Quickly identify the key voids and develop new programs to meet the companyâs sales plans to increase market share! .
4. Develop Tactical Sales Plan: Provide guidance to S! ales Representatives to help develop their tactical sales plan. Ensure that they identify key sales opportunities and deliverables. Assess need for the addition of new selling programs and processes; conduct competitive analysis, and assure appropriate expense guidance. This should be available quarterly for review.
5. Administrative Responsibilities: Manage expense budget of area activities and Sales Representatives expense report. Provide on time delivery of business forecasting and expense activities.
6. Leadership: Provide a challenging and motivational environment for developing each member of your team.
Encourage and support Sales Representatives personal development and growth;
Establish effective communication channel with all business/departments within Medtronic, customers and Medtronic management;
Champion new market development within respective area by identifying and developing key customers; and,
Participat! e in training activities, as well as, helping to develop and critique existing sales tools.
Basic Qualifications
BS degree
The person selected for this position should have at least 5 years in sales and experience in surgical sales or a related industry, selling in the Operating Room;
Familiarity with general surgery is expected;
The candidate should have exposure to selling medical devices, using a concept selling process, to a customer base consisting of surgeons;
The person selected should have a record of accomplishment of building and managing strong sales, introducing new marketing programs, managing costs, budgeting, developing sales forecasting methods, improving margins, and increasing revenue; and,
The person needs to work in a culture that emphasizes superior customer service, empowerment, participation and openness, and be effective in working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, start-up environment.

Physical Job Requirements
While performing the ! duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
Copies of immunization records must be forwarded to and filed with Vendormate within the first 30 days of employment. This ensures that Medtronic can quickly respond to and complete hospital registrations which ultimately results in getting the employee quickly and properly qualified to enter the OR of targeted hospitals and in front of prospective customers without unnecessary delays. Immunization records include:
1. MMR Immunity vaccination;
2. Chicken Pox (Varicella) Immunity;
3. Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) every 10 years;
4. Hepatitis B Vaccination (a three! series vaccination);
5. Negative TB Test or Chest X-ray (annual test); and,
6. Drug/alcohol testing â" currently, on an as-needed basis.
