SUMMARY: Provides general nursing care to patients in the hospital, clinic, or private homes (for Home Health & Hospice care) by performing the following duties.
SUPE! RVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide exceptional service and/or care to all patients, customers and team members.
- Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and reduce apprehension.
- Accurately and promptly implements physicianâs orders.
- Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
- Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Takes temperature,! pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviat! ions from normal and assess condition of patient.
- Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
- Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient,
- Resourceful and calm in emergencies.
- Participates in in-service training for personnel.
- May rotate among various clinical services such as obstetrics, ED, medical/surgical, orthopedics, outpatient, and pediatrics.
- Prepares rooms, equipment, and supplies. Sterilizes instruments.
- May assists in surgery by handing items to Surgeon, Obstetrician, or other medical practitioner.
- Makes beds, bathes and feeds patients.
- Participates in department or unit quality improvem! ent activities.
- Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively with other shifts for continuity of care.
- Perform other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
- Registered Nursing license in the state of Missouri
- BLS Certificate
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in writt! en, oral, or schedule form.
- Ability to write reports.
- Ability to learn and adapt.
- Ability to direct others.
- Knowledge of Word Processing software and other specialized software for healthcare industry.
- Skilled in operation of tools, equipment, and materials listed below.

The Job Description for Regist! ered Nurses employed in Cardiac Rehabilitation is hereby amended as follows:
1. Under section titled âEssential Duties and Responsibilities,â the following should be hereby added:
- Assists with the orientation of new participants, responsible for the initial assessment of the participant and assists in the development of the plan of care with other staff members.
- Supervises exercise session, monitoring participants for inappropriate responses to exercise. Responsible for blood pressure checks on all participants pre and post exercise and watching for abnormal responses on the telemetry device. Assesses participants pre, during and post exercise making appropriate referrals and/or recommendations to the participant, other staff, and Medical Director.
- Reports any significant participant conditions (dysrhythmias, abnormal blood pressure responses, change in participantâs status, etc.) to the physician supervising the program im! mediately. Initiates ACLS measures and/or emergency care according to h! ospital policy.
- Charts and documents initial assessment and daily participant information and progress.
- Leads participant education sessions in areas of nursing expertise.
- Checks emergency supplies and equipment for proper function an adequate supply on a regular basis. Sets up and supervises emergency drills and mock Codes on a routine basis giving appropriate feedback and constructive criticism where appropriate.
- Specialization or certification in cardiopulmonary clinical area
- 2 years of recent and relevant experience
