Kansas City VA Medical Center is current! ly seeking a dynamic, experienced nurse leader for our Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS) position. The ADPCS functions as a member of the senior management team in the Executive Office and reports to the Medical Center Director.
The Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a tertiary care facility. It is a teaching hospital providing a full range of patient services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care and tertiary care in subspecialty medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS/NE) is a member of the executive management team. He/she demonstrates complex leadership and administrative expertise associated with critical health care issues and activities that influence the organizational mission, health care, and policies through active involvement in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and program development. Through collaboration the ADPCS/NE! provides guidance and oversight for nursing practice throughout the organization. The ADPCS/NE has responsibility for establishing standards of nursing practice and ensuring the continuous and timely availability of quality nursing and patient care. He/she is prime source for the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. Due to the critical nature of the position which involves availability and accountability twenty-four hours/day, he/she must be accessible to support the ongoing needs of patients and staff. The ADPCS/NE reports directly to the Medical Center Director.
Functions include:
Collaborates with the clinical and administrative Service Line Directors to achieve the mission of this medical center and the goals of the Network and VHA.
Works as a full partner with the Chief of Staff in the design and implementati! on of a broad range of programs.
Is responsible for the establ! ishment of standards of Nursing practice for this medical center.
Approves Nursing standards of patient care and Nursing practice, Nursing policies and procedures and assures these are consistent with national standards.
Functions as the leader for professional Nursing issues.
Participates in developing these initiatives at the VISN level and nationally.
Provides professional guidance to Service Line Nurse Executives of Nursing needs.
Ensures that recruitment, retention, affiliations, employee orientation and education and the Nurse Professional Standards Board actions are accomplished appropriately.
Advises Service Line Directors of Nursing needs, resources and roles for the mission of the medical center, VISN and VHA.
Ensures appropriate evaluation of professional and non-professional nursing personnel, and designated continuity and support staff.
Actively participates with medical center/VISN leaders! in ensuring appropriate staffing levels and appropriately prepared staff for positive patient and medical center outcomes.
Functions as the professional coordinator of nurses and nursing personnel.
Forecasts nursing needs, resources, and roles for the mission of the medical center, VISN and VHA.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the progr! am was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accr! editing Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia . In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Must be proficient in spoken and written English .
Nurse V -
MSN or MasterÂ's in related field with BSN with at least 5-6 years of satisfactory nursing leadership experience
MSN obtained in a bridge program with at least 5-6 years of satisfactory nursing leadership experience
Doctoral degree (preferred) in nursing or Doctoral degree in a related field AND appropriate BSN education with at least 4-5 years of satisfactory nursing leadership experie! nce
Preferred Qualifications -
Doctoral degree in Nursing is preferred.
National certification from a VA approved certifying body as a Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC) or Nurse Executive (NE-BC) is preferred but ot requiered.
VHA- Mentor fellow Certification is preferred.
Six Sigma Green Belt level education/certification or higher is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, etc, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping.
